Introducing CLAIMaps IV – using a Geocortex viewer

The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM) CLAIMaps is intended to better serve and meet the needs of business and the mining industry in Ontario. Newly added functionality, data and imagery will improve a client’s ability to maintain and manage mining lands in a modern look and feel.

The CLAIMaps application provides search and navigation tools while providing added functions. Basemaps and imagery provide a more enhanced visual product with the ability to create, modify and print custom made as well as provide standard mapping products. Markup and printing tools aid with identifying and displaying specific features on a map.

As part of our commitment to customer service, MNDM will continue to provide excellence in mapping services including in meeting its obligation to comply with the Access to Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This newly introduced legislation is intended to better accommodate people with disabilities while improving and maintaining the high standard of service that MNDM provides to clients and the general public.

As the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines prepares for migration to the Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS), please note that unpatented claims with a due date of December 1, 2017 to and including October 31, 2018 will have the due date extended by one year and all the time to perform and report the work will be excluded. For more information see Ontario Regulation 455/17, Transition – Electronic Registration of Mining Claims.

The due dates set by the above regulation will not be displayed on the current claim abstracts.

The CLAIMaps application has been updated as of July 13, 2017. This version features a new online Claim Conversion Demonstration and Claim Boundary Report (CBR) Tool. This new demonstration tool will enable clients to map and forecast the outcome of the conversion of their legacy claims to cell and boundary claims resulting from implementation of the Aggregate Resources and Mining Modernization Act (Bill 39). The Claim Boundary Report provides an option for claim holders to group claims within their own block of mining claims and prevent the merger of boundary claims.

The tool can also generate a summary forecast of the claim holder’s – legacy claims, including hectares, claim units, before and after conversion. It will include future assessment work requirements, cell claims, boundary claims, those cell claims that are encumbered and revised hectares. Legacy claims of same holder in a cell that would merge to a single cell claim will be prevented from merging via CBR and will be reflected in the summary forecast.

Read Demonstration Conversion Tool Guide for instructions on how to use both these resources.

Please be aware, the online demonstration conversion tool gives a forecast of potential conversion results based on a ‘snapshot’ in time. Claim locations or claim holdings may change before the conversion date and the results on the actual conversion date may differ.
