MAM Update - February 2017

Mines and Minerals Division:

We Will Need Your Up-to-Date Mailing Address

Contingent upon legislation (Bill 39) being passed, all existing MNDM mineral exploration and development clients would be notified by mail with instructions to register their client profile in the new Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS). For that reason, you should ensure that we have your current mailing address on file. This is already a legal requirement in the Mining Act and it’s a critically important step that you do not want to miss.

Section 19(8) of the Mining Act requires that a change of address notification be submitted to the Ministry in writing. A client may notify us by completing and forwarding a change of address form to pro.ndm@ontario.ca. You can find the MNDM change of address form here. If you have a problem or need assistance in processing the form, please contact the provincial mining recorder at pro.ndm@ontario.ca or at the number below.

One-On-One Proposed Conversion Process Sessions Available at PDAC

Our Mining Act Modernization team will be on the ground at the 2017 annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada in Toronto March 5 to 8. If you haven’t benefitted from a personal demonstration of how the proposed electronic conversion process would impact your mining claims, and would like a personal presentation while at PDAC, please contact miningact@ontario.ca to book your session.

MAM Glossary Now Online

You’ve seen terms like “conversion”, “final determination” and “boundary cells”, to name just a few, associated with our Mining Act Modernization proposal. If Bill 39 is passed, MAM would introduce new or modified terminology related to mineral exploration and development in Ontario. To help you recognize and understand this new lexicon, we have published a Guide to new Mining Act Modernization Phase 3 proposed terms and concepts. We encourage our mineral development clients to become familiar with the terminology presented in this glossary.
