Mines and Minerals Division:

Georeference Your Claims Now

Ontario is proposing to implement online staking and online mining lands administration. If you aren’t certain that your mining claim is shown accurately on the current provincial claims map, you should georeference your claim and provide the data to the province.

Under the proposal, claim boundaries would eventually be defined by the provincial claims map rather than claim posts. Once this transition occurred, there would be no opportunity to adjust claim boundaries.

By georeferencing your claims now, you can accurately define your claims’ boundaries based on the GPS coordinates of claim posts. When you submit that GPS data to the province, we’ll use it to verify your claims’ boundaries on the provincial claims map.

Obtain Assessment Credits

You can obtain $400 per claim unit in assessment credit (up to $6,400 for a 16-unit claim) for filing georeferencing data with the province.
