Mineral Deposit Inventory—2014
The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is releasing an updated version of the Mineral Deposit Inventory (MDI). This database is an inventory of mineral deposits in the province of Ontario and supersedes previous MDI releases. Originally compiled in the early 1970s by the Resident Geologist Program (RGP), the database is continually being reviewed and updated by RGP staff. There are approximately 40 new records and 800 updated records in the 2014 release.

Each MDI record provides all or some of the following information: deposit name(s), location, status (e.g., occurrence, prospect, producer, past producer), commodities, character/classification, geological structure, lithology, minerals and mineral alteration, geochemistry, exploration history, and production and reserve data where available. Also included are notes on deposit visits and references to additional publications related to the deposit.

MDI data are provided in 2 formats in this release: 1) a relational database, and 2) MDI provincial coverage in a geospatial GIS (ESRI® shape file) format. The complete MDI relational database is provided in Microsoft® Access® 2010 (.mdb) format. For the geospatial data, basic mineral deposit information (MDI number, commodities and property status) is provided. Geospatial data are provided in North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) geographic co-ordinate system using Geodetic Reference System 1980 (GRS80).

The database is available on 1 CD. $20.00.
Available April 8, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, or 9:00 a.m. Central Time.

Erratum

In Miscellaneous Release—Data 9 – Revised, Lake Sediment Geochemical Survey of the Cow River Area, Batchewana Greenstone Belt (released March 5, 2007), the location co-ordinates for the samples listed in file “COWRIVER.xls” were converted to latitude and longitude from NAD27 UTM co-ordinates in an incorrect grid zone resulting in an error of 6° longitude. Additionally, there was a typographic error in the UTM location of sample A5-126: the correct location is 297075E 5239225N.

These errors have been corrected and a replacement CD is available for those clients who purchased the CD with the incorrect file. Please contact Publication Sales and the replacement CD will be sent to you free of charge. Alternatively, the corrected version of MRD 9 – Revised is available to download for free from the GeologyOntario application at http://www.geologyontario.mndm.gov.on.ca/mndmaccess/mndm_dir.asp?type=pub&id=mrd009-rev.

We regret any inconvenience these errors may have caused.
