Precambrian Geology – Northwestern Ontario

Miscellaneous Release—Data 306
Establishing Regional Geodynamic Settings and the Metallogeny of Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide Mineralization of Greenstone Belt Assemblages (Circa 2720 Ma) of the Wawa Subprovince via Geochemical Comparisons; by R.W.D. Lodge and J.E. Chartrand. This geographic information system (GIS)-based release covers 3 study areas—the Shebandowan, Winston Lake and Manitouwadge greenstone belts—in the Wawa Subprovince and comprises field observations, geochemical data and geochemical diagram images, and photographs hyperlinked to the geodatabase for the corresponding study area. Part of a doctoral (PhD) thesis study, the data provide characterizations of the greenstone belt assemblages (circa 2720 Ma) of the Wawa Subprovince, which were used to determine the petrogenetic and geodynamic controls on the base metal metallogeny in this region. The study was supported by the Ontario Geological Survey and by the Mineral Exploration Research Centre of Laurentian University through the Ontario Geological Survey–Laurentian University Graduate Mapping School Program. Presentation of the data for the 3 study areas are provided as GIS project files (ESRI® ArcGIS® 10.1 and 9.3 project (.mxd) files and ESRI® ArcGIS® 9.3 geodatabase (.gdb) project files); also provided are associated shapefile (.shp) format files for geology, geochemical data, isotope data and tectonic affinity. Field observations with descriptions of lithofacies, alteration and mineralization, and the photograph descriptions are provided within the GIS project files. This release also provides 400 geochemical, 14 geochronologic and 140 isotopic analyses, and 37 Mineral Deposit Inventory records (9 Microsoft® Excel® 2003 (.xls) and 2010 (.xlsx) format files); more than 4300 photographs (field, sample slabs, thin sections) and images of various plots (.jpg format files); and supporting documentation (portable document format (.pdf) file). Available on 1 DVD. $25.00.

Precambrian Geology – Proterozoic and Grenville Province

Miscellaneous Release—Data 308
New and Compiled Whole-Rock Geochemical and Isotope Data of Midcontinent Rift–Related Rocks, Thunder Bay Area; by R.M. Cundari, C.F.J. Carl, P. Hollings and M.C. Smyk. This digital data release includes newly acquired whole-rock and trace element analyses for 114 bedrock samples of mafic igneous rocks related to the Mesoproterozoic Midcontinent Rift. The release also includes a compilation of geochemical data for Midcontinent Rift–related rocks compiled from previously released digital data sets (Miscellaneous Release—Data (MRD) 114, 132, 133, 146, 147, 190, 194 and 261—Revised) totalling 2358 spatially referenced data points with geochemical analyses, in addition to the 114 new samples. Additionally, 20 samples with Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr isotope data are also included in this release. The data presented in this publication represents the data analyzed as part of an unpublished Master of Science (MSc) thesis by the lead author at Lakehead University. The compilation, the new data and a brief overview of the referenced MRDs and analytical procedures are presented as Microsoft® Excel® 2010 (.xlsx) and portable document format (.pdf) files. The data are available on 1 CD. $20.00.

Ontario Drill Hole Database—2013
The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is releasing an updated version of the Ontario Drill Hole Database (ODHD). This database is an inventory of drill holes in the province of Ontario. Drill hole data are compiled from assessment files on a regular basis; the Ontario Drill Hole Database is continuously updated and is released periodically on CD. This release includes drill holes for which information was received by March 31, 2013, adding more than 15 000 new drill holes since the last release (ERLIS Data Set 13—Revision 1, December 2005). A number of data and location errors have also been corrected. This release supersedes all previous releases.

The Ontario Drill Hole Database contains information for over 141 000 percussion, overburden, sonic and diamond-drill holes. Data include location, company name, company hole number, hole orientation, hole depth, and overburden depth if applicable. The presence of assay results with cutoff values for gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, nickel and platinum group elements is noted. Source assessment file numbers are captured for cross referencing with the assessment file database (AFRI).

Data are provided in 2 formats in this release: 1) a relational database and 2) seamless ODHD provincial coverage in a geospatial GIS (ESRI® shapefile) format. The complete ODHD relational database is provided in Microsoft® Access® 2007/2010 (.accdb) format. Geospatial data are provided in North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) geographic co-ordinate system using Geodetic Reference System 1980 (GRS80).

The database is available on 1 CD. $20.00.
