Ontario Supporting Business Innovation in Sault Ste. Marie

Province Investing in Economic Development and Job Creation in the North

March 23, 2018

Ontario is investing in the establishment of a software solutions and development centre in Sault Ste. Marie that will serve small to medium-sized businesses and create 30 jobs.
With funding from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), The Createch Group will establish a new centre in Sault Ste. Marie that will help businesses use software to improve productivity.

The NOHFC is also investing in two other Sault Ste. Marie businesses:

  • Alert Technologies Inc. is receiving $250,000 to develop a monitoring system that will be used in the mining industry to detect a loss of rock bolt load tension and bolt overloading that will improve safety and reduce costs.
  • Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is receiving $124,300 to implement a micro-grant program to help northern farms and food producers purchase equipment that will enhance their productivity and improve their environmental performance with projects such as composting, waste management, and irrigation.

Investing in private-sector growth and job creation in the North is part of Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

“Ontario recognizes that investing in business expansion and job creation is vital to economic growth in Northern Ontario. Through investments like these, we are supporting the development of innovative solutions, creating jobs and contributing to long-term prosperity in Sault Ste. Marie and in the North.”
— Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Chair of the NOHFC
