MAM Update - March 8, 2018

Mines and Minerals Division: 

Assessment Work and Mining Claims Regulations Now Available Online

The last two regulations supporting implementation of the final phase of modernizing Ontario’s Mining Act are now available on the government’s e-Laws website. The regulations will come into force when Stage 2 of Ontario’s new 24/7 electronic Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) launches on April 10, 2018. The proposal for these regulations was posted to the provincial Environmental and Regulatory registries last fall for a 45-day public input period.

Ontario to Adjust Administration Fees for Acquisition of Mining Lands

New and Adjusted Fees Will Be In Effect April 10

As Ontario moves toward implementation of its new 24/7 Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS), we also need to adjust administrative fees related to registering new cell claims and associated transactions.  New and adjusted fees will be introduced concurrent with the launch of MLAS on April 10, 2018. In all, 12 fees are being adjusted, 19 others are being eliminated.

Ontario Moves Closer to Online Mining Claim Registration

Mineral exploration proponents should prepare for an interruption in access Ontario’s new 24/7 electronic Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) between March 15 and April 9. Stage 1 of MLAS was launched February 7.

The Ontario Pavilion is located on level 800 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (booth 637).

MLAS Information Workshops Scheduled

Come Experience MLAS in a Hands-On Learning Session

The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is currently holding detailed information workshops on how to access and work within Ontario’s new electronic 24/7 Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS). Ontario is moving to online mining claim registration and the full implementation of the new MLAS on April 10, 2018.

Workshops are planned across the province over the coming weeks. We are also reaching out to Indigenous communities interested in learning more about MLAS.
