Sites of Aboriginal Cultural Significance May Continue to be Withdrawn During the Pre-Conversion Period

With the 90-day pre-conversion period now in effect, no new mining claim can be registered in Ontario until online claim registration launches April 10, 2018, as part of Stage 2 of implementing the Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS).

Ontario is supporting communities across the North in developing plans and initiatives that will attract new investments and grow local economies.

The province’s Northern Communities Investment Readiness (NCIR) program offers grants to First Nations, municipalities and economic development corporations in Northern Ontario to support initiatives that will better position their communities to attract and develop new investments.

Since 2015, the NCIR program has approved more than $877,000 for 68 investment projects, including:

A Claim Boundary Report Will Allow You to Tailor Conversion of Legacy Claims

Claim staking in Ontario will come to an end on January 8, 2018. A 90-day pre-conversion period will go into effect January 9, followed by the introduction of online mining claim registration and the full launch of the new Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) on April 10, 2018.

Be Prepared to Manage Your Mining Lands Online When MLAS Launches

Claim staking in Ontario will end on January 8, 2018. It will be replaced by online mining claim registration supported by a new electronic Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) through which claim holders will also manage their mining lands from anywhere on a 24/7 basis.
