Agricultural and Horticultural Societies

MNDM collaborates with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) to provide assistance to agricultural and rural organizations across Northern Ontario.

Agricultural societies promote heightened awareness of agriculture and a better quality of rural life. They sponsor agricultural exhibitions, natural resources conservation, agricultural community beautification and a wide range of other activities to enrich life in agricultural areas.

Horticultural societies encourage interest and improvements in garden cultivation (horticulture). Their activities include community gardening, outdoor beautification, competitions and exhibitions.

What the Program Offers

  • information and advice to agricultural and horticultural societies about their responsibilities and obligations under the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act.
  • review of annual grant applications and financial statements to ensure societies are in compliance with the act.
