Main Policy Index

This segment of the Mining Lands Section Internet site contains the internal policies (policies, procedures, guidelines) that are written for staff of the Mining Lands Section.  These policies developed to aid staff in the administration of the Mining Act.

Under subsection 35(2) of Ontario's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Ministry is required to make these internal policies available for public viewing in a reading room or designated office.  The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines has chosen the Internet as the reading room that can reach the widest group of its clients.

General Word Index

The General Word Index lists most key headings alphabetically, primarily using the titles of the subjects, paragraphs and subparagraphs.  The General Word Index is common to all 3 broad topics (General Administration; Leases, Licences, and Patents; Unpatented Mining Claims).

General Administration Policies

The General Administration (GA) policies cover a variety of topics which are:

  • general in use, such as confidentiality of information, or
  • administrative, such as fees, or
  • relate to all land tenure, such as withdrawal of land form staking, sale or lease and reopening of land to staking, sale or lease.

Leases, Licences and Patents Policies

The Leases, Licences and Patents (LP) policies cover topics relating to mining leases, licences of occupation issued under the Mining Act, patents, and other forms of disposition of land or use of the land for mining purposes.

Unpatented Mining Claims Policies

The Unpatented Mining Claims (UC) policies cover a wide variety of topics and issues relating to staked mining claims.
