Services Offered

  • Will receive original documents for mining lands in the Thunder Bay mining division.
  • Clients may pay most filing fees under the Mining Act.
  • Telephone Ttransmission: In accordance with subsection 10 (1) of General regulation 113/91, a Mining Act document can be transmitted for a client to the Provincial Recording Office or the Geoscience Assessment Office.
  • Computer terminal available for the client, client can access mining claim maps, print sections of claim maps or order full sized claim maps through the Mines Library. Clients can also access Mining Claims Information (MCI) and Mining Lands Website.
  • Obtain: claim tags, application forms for a prospector's licence or renewal. (The licence will be issued from the Provincial Recording Office in Sudbury.)
  • Mail drop off box for any Mining Act document for any mining division.  If document is not for Thunder Bay division, it will be forwarded to the Sudbury Office by courier but we take no responsibility for delivery or time of delivery.

Government Information Centres

The Government Information Centres in Atikokan, Geraldton and Marathon also provide Mining Lands Services and Products.

Government Information Centre staff do not provide any technical information or interpretation of the Mining Act.
