Ontario Mining Association (OMA) Agreement
The OMA was concerned with abandoned mines in terms of sustainable development and their negative image. As a result, the OMA and MNDM negotiated a partnership agreement in 2003. The agreement provides the framework for collaboration on abandoned mine rehabilitation projects.
Highlights of Agreement
- OMA will select abandoned mine rehabilitation projects to partner with MNDM regarding the rehabilitation of those site(s).
- OMA has various criteria that they base their selection on, including
- Sites must be Crown held and non-controversial.
- Sites should be fairly visible to the public and potentially generate some positive publicity for the OMA.
- The rehabilitation project costs for the selected sites will be shared by MNDM and OMA on a 1:1 basis.
- Each of the partners will contribute up to $1 million during the duration of the agreement.
