Drill Core Library Catalogue

The Drill Core Library Catalogue (DCLC) provides access to an inventory of representative diamond drill and other core types maintained by the Resident Geologist Program (RGP) network of offices and stored in the Province of Ontario. Originally compiled in the early 1980s by the RGP, the database is continually being reviewed and updated by RGP staff. The catalogues contain approximately 15,000 records.  Currency of the drill core catalogue records should be verified at the local Resident Geologist Program Office.

Drill cores are stored in core library buildings as well as at off-site, outside core storage compounds in Kenora-Red Lake, Thunder Bay-Marathon, Sault Ste Marie, Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Tweed. Drill core is generally accessible seasonally. Map of the Resident Geologist Program Boundaries.

To confirm accessibility and to schedule viewing of drill core, RGP staff can be contacted at: http://www.mndm.gov.on.ca/mines/resgeol/contact_e.asp

RGP staff will require at least one week’s prior notice to verify accessibility and availability of drill core.

A Drill Core Library Catalogue in PDF format and a Drill Core Library Database in Microsoft Access Database format (mdb) from each Resident Geologist Area is available for downloading below.  The Catalogue listing generated from the corresponding database does not contain all fields found in the database.

Each DCLC record provides information on a number of items, such as Company Name, Company Drill Hole Number, year completed, collar location and assay availability. The databases list all of the commodities for which we have assay values but does not include the assay numbers themselves. These are available only in hard copy format through the various RGP offices across the province. Approximately 5 000 records have linkages to more detailed descriptions, including drill logs found in Ontario Assessment Files Research Image (AFRI) database.

Clients can search the AFRI database and access, view and download in PDF format the individual Assessment Files through the GeologyOntario website.
