John B. Gammon Geoscience Library
Welcome to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines
Library. The John B. Gammon Geoscience Library
houses a comprehensive collection of journals, government documents,
maps and reference material relating to geology and mineral
exploration, in Ontario, and the rest of the world.

Collection
The Library maintains a unique collection of resources
focussing on the geology of Ontario, including
- Ontario Geological Survey reports (1891 onwards)
- Geological maps of Ontario
- Graduate theses pertaining to the geology of Ontario
The Library subscribes to many geoscientific journals, and has an
extensive collection of government documents, serials, monographs
and theses. Library users have access to
- Geological Survey of Canada reports (1845 onwards)
- U.S. Geological Survey reports (1880 onwards)
- Reports from other provincial and state geological surveys
- Reports and maps for other Precambrian geology regions of the world
- Selected reference books in the fields of general geology,
mineralogy,
petrology,
mineral resources and mining technology
- Encyclopedias, atlases, directories, geological dictionaries
A computer workstation is available for researchers to search, via
the Internet, GeoRef, the American Geological Institute Earth
Sciences database. It contains over 1.5 million citations covering
North America since 1785 and other areas of the world since 1933.
Workstations provide access to GeologyOntario, the Ministry of Northern
Development and Mines online database of assessment work files, OGS
maps and reports, Mineral Deposits Inventory, lithogeochemical data,
and diamond-drill hole results.
Library Catalogue
Material in the Mines Library Catalogue can be searched on-site
or online through the Laurentian University Library Catalogue. Select Mines Library from the "Database to be Searched" option, then
follow the instructions on screen.
Circulation
The Library is a reference library, and materials cannot be
signed out. Inter-library loans can be arranged.
Facilities
Other facilities available at the library are a photocopier and a
map copier; a viewing room, with television, VCR and slide
projector, available to the public through advance booking; and
study carrels and larger work tables suitable for viewing maps.
