Ontario establishes regulations for geoscientists
under new Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000

RegistrationCode of Ethics of Professional Geoscientists Proposed Amendment to O.Reg. 59/01

Registration criteria and a code of ethics for the new Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) have now been set out in regulations. Under the legislation, Ontario geoscientists who meet the qualifications and abide by the code of ethics will be formally recognized as professional geoscientists.

Made under the Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000, these regulations support a strong and healthy mineral industry. Professional status is expected to enhance public confidence and allow the Association to promote skill and integrity among its members.

  • The regulations define different membership classes in the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario, and set out the requirements and conditions for registration in each class.
  • The code of ethics defines members’ professional obligations, duties and responsibilities.
