Kenora Waterfront Redevelopment Moving Forward

McGuinty Government Invests In Port of Kenora

NEWS   

The ongoing redevelopment of the Kenora waterfront will help attract tourists, spur economic and community development and create 110 jobs.

The City of Kenora is set to begin work on the second phase of its Port of Kenora Tourism and Investment Attraction Project. This phase of the project will include:

• redevelopment of the existing harbour,
• establishment of the Lake of the Woods Plaza, new boardwalks, and parking,
• refurbishment of aging public wharves, 
• development of a venue for special events, and 
• conversion of  the Thistle Pavilion into a new year-round Visitor Information Centre.
  

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $2 million to this project under its Infrastructure and Community Development Program.  The second phase of this redevelopment project is slated to begin this summer, with the entire project expected to create 110 direct and indirect jobs once it is completed.

• In 2007, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) contributed $2 million toward the first phase of this project.
