McGuinty Government Investment Creates Jobs, Boosts Local Economy

The expansion of services at the Sault Ste. Marie air terminal will help accommodate more tourists and commercial flight companies, while creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
The province provided $162,150 to the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation to expand and improve the terminal, including:
- enhanced security standards;
- reconstruction of Canada Border Services Agency offices;
- larger arrival and screening areas.

- The NOHFC funding is provided through the Infrastructure and Community Development Program. The project was completed last December.
- Of the 23 regional, local or small airports in Ontario that have been transferred from the Federal government, the Sault Ste. Marie Airport is the only airport that is not directly affiliated with a municipality.
- Since January 2005, the NOHFC’s Infrastructure and Community Development Program has invested more than $162 million in more than 320 projects in Northern Ontario.
