Ontario is helping young entrepreneurs start new businesses in Northeastern Ontario.

The province, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), is investing $225,000 in the start-up of nine new businesses launched by northern youth.  Funding is provided through the NOHFC’s Young Entrepreneur Program.  These new businesses are creating 15 jobs immediately and are expected to create some 13 additional jobs over the next three years.

  • The NOHFC is also providing funding of $650,000 for upgrades and renovations to a facility in Timmins that will host a new customer interaction centre.
  • Since 2003, the NOHFC has invested nearly $423 million in more than 2,300 northern projects leveraging an additional $1.3 billion from project partners.

Ontario Invests In Northeast Entrepreneurship

Ontario investments continue to grow small businesses and create private sector jobs in the Timmins and Hearst area.

Funding under the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation’s Young Entrepreneur Program is being provided to the following businesses:

  • $25,000 to Ryan Farrell of Timmins to start a business of installing residential satellite television equipment;
  • $25,000 to BIM Visuals of Hearst to open an architectural design studio for residential and commercial clients;
  • $25,000 to Juniper’s Dreams of Timmins to sell products related to various religions and to provide Reiki massage, reflexology and aromatherapy services;
  • $25,000 to Kaylan Tremblay of Timmins to establish a photography business specializing in wildlife, sports and location shoots;
  • $25,000 to Core Business Solutions of Timmins to sell Xerox products;
  • $25,000 to Studio J Boilard of Hearst to open a photography studio offering event and aerial photography services as well as power point, portfolio and multi-media montages;
  • $25,000 to Wolf Heart Imaging of Kapuskasing to start a business offering a number of photography services;
  • $25,000 to Marchand Welding of Hearst to operate a mobile welding business for commercial and non-commercial clients;
  • $25,000 to Coates Geographics of Timmins to provide geographical information systems (GIS) services to small companies and individuals.

Since 2005, the NOHFC has invested more than $5.5 million to help launch the businesses of nearly 250 young entrepreneurs in the North.
