McGuinty Government Invests In Northern Infrastructure and Job Creation

There will be greater community renewal, regional economic development and job creation with the development of Thunder Bay’s waterfront.
Phase one of Thunder Bay’s waterfront development will begin this September and focus on preparing Prince Arthur’s Landing at Marina Park for future recreational, commercial and residential development. This work will include site preparation and infrastructure improvements, which will lay the foundations for future private and public sector projects such as a hotel, condominiums and a new marina.
The Prince Arthur’s Landing construction project is expected to generate about 250 jobs annually and $200 million in spending within the local economy.

- The Ontario government is investing $5 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to assist with the first phase of the waterfront development.
- The NOHFC is investing an additional $100,000 to identify the best sources of renewable internal energy to make the waterfront project as green and clean as possible.
- In 2006, the NOHFC invested in a feasibility study that helped spearhead the long-term development of Marina Park.
