NEWS

The Pic River First Nation can now pursue more local economic development opportunities with a new lands and resources coordinator.

The coordinator will consult with private and public partners about mining, tourism, forestry and other business activities within the First Nation’s traditional territory.

The two-year contract includes:

  • developing a comprehensive understanding of local economic activities
  • identifying potential impacts on traditional lands
  • building productive relationships with natural resource companies
  • drafting and maintaining agreements.
Increasingly, First Nations, government and industry in Ontario are working together to consider natural resource development. Appropriate staffing enables First Nations to participate more effectively in those consultations.
