Wawa Entrepreneur Picks Blueberry Business

McGuinty Government Creating Jobs, Strengthening Economy

Ontario is helping a Wawa entrepreneur cultivate and process wild blueberries for local and export markets.
Level Plains Enterprises is taking innovative approaches to growing wild lowbush blueberries on hundreds of acres of land. The company will use funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to:
- Conduct trials to confirm the most efficient method of propagating wild blueberry plants;
- Purchase equipment for land development and;
- Conduct seed and mulch trials
This investment will create as many seven new jobs, some of which will be seasonal.

- The NOHFC is providing $33,333 to this project.
- Research has shown that blueberries, especially of the wild low bush variety, contain properties that may reduce the risks of certain diseases.
