McGuinty Government Supports Four-Laning Study, Future Economic Growth
NEWS
A planning study for a 40-kilometre section of Trans-Canada Highway 11/17 between Kakabeka Falls and Shabaqua Corners will allow the land to be designated and protected for future highway needs.
The route planning study will recommend a corridor for future four-laning. At present there is no commitment to start construction.
As part of the study, the Ministry of Transportation will invite the public to review route alternatives and provide comments during a series of three public information centres. The first of these is planned for the fall of 2009.
QUOTES
“It is important to me, as the member for Thunder Bay-Atikokan, that this study move forward. This section of highway represents the only option available for east/west traffic should a problem arise, and it needs to be addressed for the same reasons as the Nipigon to Thunder Bay corridor.”
- Bill Mauro, MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
“This planning study is a positive step toward four-laning this section of the Trans-Canada Highway, aiding motorists, boosting the economy and strengthening communities.”
- Jim Bradley, Minister of Transportation.
