The Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT) is expanding its Innovation and Commercialization Centre to support future business development and to immediately accommodate three companies that will bring as many as 10 new jobs to the Sudbury area.

A Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) investment is helping NORCAT expand its shop space by more than 5,000 square feet. The centre helps businesses and entrepreneurs develop and test new technologies and equipment on a fee for service basis. It provides affordable industrial lab space, high-speed Internet and other amenities.

QUICK FACTS

  • The NOHFC is providing $1 million under its Infrastructure and Community Development Program.  In 2007, it invested $1.5 million in the construction of NORCAT’s Innovation and Commercialization Centre, which currently hosts six companies.  
  • This investment is part of Ontario’s five point economic plan which includes a $1-billion commitment to support innovation across the province.
