Residents of Larder Lake will soon be able to host community gatherings and other events at a new multi use community centre.

With Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) assistance, the Town is renovating the former Larder Lake Public School to house an improved recreation centre, gymnasium and kitchen as well as space for the local seniors and youth clubs.   

Construction will create about 20 jobs and strengthen the local economy.  Renovations are scheduled to be completed by March 2011.

QUICK FACTS

  • The NOHFC is providing $1 million for this project under its Infrastructure and Community Development Program, which helps northern communities improve critical infrastructure, create jobs and improve economic prospects.
  • Larder Lake municipal services are currently housed in three old buildings that are not suitable for upgrades.  This project involves interior renovations, installation of new windows and upgrades to the heating and cooling systems of the former school.  It will also include municipal offices and the local library.
