Did You Know?
- There are more than 300 lakes within the Greater Sudbury watershed.
Agriculture societies promote a better awareness of agriculture and a better quality of rural life. They sponsor agricultural exhibitions, natural resources conservation, agricultural community beautification, and a wide range of other activities to enrich life in agricultural areas.
Horticultural societies encourage interest and improvements in garden cultivation (horticulture). Some of their activities to promote understanding of horticultural theories and practices include community gardening, outdoor beautification, competitions and exhibitions.
We collaborate with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) to provide agricultural and rural organizations across Northern Ontario with:
We also provide information and advice to agricultural and horticultural societies about their responsibilities and obligations under the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act. Our staff helps OMAFRA monitor societies’ compliance with the Act by reviewing annual grant applications and financial statements.
