TOurism

Our ministry's aim is to help Northern Ontario's tourism industry succeed in the rapidly changing world of travel and leisure. We collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to see that the Ontario Tourism Strategy meets the needs of the North's tourism industry, which includes fostering economic prosperity, growth and community development. Support includes the numerous seasonal festivals and destination attractions that offer many rewarding experiences to vacationers to the North.

Resource-Based Tourism

Our government recognizes that resource-based tourism plays an important role in diversifying and strengthening Northern Ontario's economic base. Activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking, snowmobiling and wildlife viewing allow visitors and northerners alike to take full advantage of the province's unspoiled Crown lands and waters.

Ontario Resource-Based Tourism Diversification Opportunities Reports
The Ontario Resource-Based Tourism Diversification Opportunities Study was conducted in 2001.  The study identifies and gives a better understanding of the demand for various types of alternative resource-based tourism activities beyond traditional fishing and hunting.

It covers market preferences, marketing and packaging opportunities, and the expectations of potential customers.
