Deputy Minister David De Launay

DM David De Launay

David de Launay is the Deputy Minister of Northern Development and Mines. As Deputy Minister, he is focused on developing innovation in the mining sector as well as supporting the exploration sector and addressing the infrastructure needs of Northern Ontario.

As part of his role, David is also helping to implement the government’s approach to Indigenous people and addressing economic growth throughout the North.

David is responsible for the oversight of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission and the Owen Sound Transportation Company.

He has previously served as the Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Affairs from 2013 to 2014 and as an Assistant Deputy Minister with the ministries of Natural Resources, Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Mines, and Cabinet Office from 2004 to 2013.

David has also previously served on the Boards of Directors of several educational, economic and Great Lakes organizations, including Algoma University. He holds a bachelor of economics degree from Trent University.
