MAM Update - February 7, 2018

Mines and Minerals Division:

SPECIAL EDITION

Stage 1 of Ontario’s new 24/7 Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) goes into service today at 10 a.m. At this time, the system is available for mining lands clients to enrol, set up their new client profile, and explore some of the features of the system. Stage 2 will launch April 10, marking the beginning of online mining claim registration in Ontario.

Did You Receive Your Enrolment Package?

Enrolment packages were sent out a few weeks ago to all active mining claim holders and holders of valid prospector’s licences. The kit includes instructions on how to set up a ONe-key account and provides clients with a Personal Information Number (PIN) for one-time use to access MLAS. If you haven’t received your kit you should contact the Provincial Recording Office to request one.

You Only Have Until February 9 to Submit a Claim Boundary Report (CBR)

One of the business decisions you need to make now is whether or not to allow the merger of some of your legacy claims at conversion. This is done by submitting a CBR in CLAIMaps. That decision is entirely yours. Updated online conversion tool instructions have been published on CLAIMaps to guide you through the process of selecting and viewing claims you might want to prevent from merging and submitting a CBR. If you do submit a CBR, you also need to print out and send back a confirmation form by February 23.

Final Determination Will Occur February 26

On this date, the Provincial Mining Recorder will make the final determination as to the location of legacy claims and delineate them on the provincial grid. Mining claims will then be legally defined by those coordinates and not by posts on the ground or township surveys.

Conversion Is Happening April 10

Along with online mining claim registration, MLAS Stage 2 launch on April 10 will see ground or map staked mining claims (legacy claims) converted into cell claims or boundary claims on the provincial grid and the full suite of MLAS functions becoming available.

Are You New to Mineral Exploration in Ontario?

If you are new to mineral exploration in Ontario you can set up your ONe-key account at any time, but you will have to wait until April 10 to enrol in MLAS.
