MAM Update - Special PDAC edition - March 2017

Mines and Minerals Division:

See You at the 2017 PDAC Convention

The Mining Act Modernization Phase 3 team will be at the 2017 annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) to provide a number of venues and opportunities for mineral development clients to learn more about Schedule 2 of the proposed Aggregate Resources and Mining Modernization Act (Bill 39). We hope you will take advantage of these opportunities to familiarize yourself with, and prepare yourself for our proposal to move Ontario from ground staking and paper map staking to online mining claim registration, as well as to create an online Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS) that would enhance client access to Ontario’s mining lands data.

Workshops Will Present Important Information Claim Holders Need to Know About Mining Act Modernization

Ontario’s Mining Act Modernization Phase 3 project lead Roy Denomme will present an update on the province’s Mining Act Modernization project. Ministry staff will also provide information on what is proposed in Bill 39 for converting existing mining claims to cell claims and boundary claims, as well as assessment work requirements post-conversion. Two presentations are scheduled; no advance registration is required:

Tuesday, March 7, 2017
10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Ontario Pavilion (Booth 637)

Wednesday, March 8, 2017
10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Ontario Pavilion (Booth 637)

You Can Also Book Your Personal Demonstration at PDAC!

MNDM has already delivered more than 350 one-on-one demonstrations to clients, reviewing the proposed rules that would apply to conversion under each claim holder’s unique scenarios. Clients have learned how assessment credits in claims would be managed and carried over, how new assessment work requirements would be implemented and what options would arise throughout the conversion to best manage their claim holdings. The one-on-one sessions provide an opportunity to learn about these unique situations in confidence as well as learn about how clients would manage claim holdings most effectively through the proposed conversion process.

Client feedback has been extremely positive! Claim holders who have taken advantage of a personal demonstration have overwhelmingly told us they appreciate the invaluable insight they have gained and the understanding they subsequently have of the proposed mining claims conversion process. Clients also receive copies of maps and summary reports of their claims that allow them to review their land package more expertly, prepare more effectively in advance of the proposed conversion and plan more strategically for subsequently managing their claims using the proposed MLAS. You may schedule your own personal demonstration at PDAC by contacting miningact@ontario.ca now to book your session in advance.
