Precambrian Geology – Far North

Miscellaneous Release—Data 328
Geological, Geochemical, Geophysical, Geochronological and Petrographic Data from the Lang Lake Greenstone Belt, Central Uchi Domain, Superior Province; by S.J. Magnus. This release contains geological information, selected outcrop photographs and magnetic susceptibility data collected in 2014 during bedrock geology mapping in the Lang Lake greenstone belt. Whole-rock geochemical, geochronological and petrographic data are provided for collected samples. Also included are previously published articles and presentations to the public related to the project. This release comprises 95 images (as .jpg files), 11 Microsoft® Excel® 2010 (.xlsx) files and 21 documents in portable document format (.pdf). These data augment Preliminary Maps P.3794, Precambrian Geology of the Lang Lake Greenstone Belt (West Half) and P.3795, Precambrian Geology of the Lang Lake Greenstone Belt (East Half), which were released in April 2015; the geological legend and marginal notes for these maps are also provided in this MRD. The data are available on 1 CD. $20.00.

Surficial Geochemistry

Open File Report 6309
Results of Regional Till and Modern Alluvium Sampling in the McFaulds Lake (“Ring of Fire”) Area, Northern Ontario; by C. Gao and D.C. Crabtree. Digital data are available separately as Miscellaneous Release—Data 322 (see below), 164p.

Miscellaneous Release—Data 322
Indicator Mineral and Geochemistry Data for a Till and Alluvium Sampling Survey in the McFaulds Lake (“Ring of Fire”) Area, Northern Ontario; by C. Gao, D.C. Crabtree and R.D. Dyer. This digital data release presents the results of a regional till and modern alluvium sampling survey in the McFaulds Lake (“Ring of Fire”) area, in northern Ontario. The data consist of indicator mineral grain counts; geochemical and compositional data of kimberlite indicator minerals (KIMs), chromite, metamorphic/magmatic massive sulphide indicator minerals (MMSIM®*); and gold grains recovered from till and river sand and gravel (alluvium) samples. The data are being released in conjunction with Open File Report 6309, available separately. The files, provided in 17 Microsoft® Excel® 2010 (.xlsx) spreadsheets, contain information on sample site locations, sample processing data, KIMs picked and picking remarks, electron probe microanalyzer results of KIM and chromite grains, adjusted KIM results, gold grain data, MMSIM®* data, clastic lithology data and geochemical data from the <0.063 mm fraction of the bulk samples. Mineral Deposit Inventory

The Resident Geologist Program announces the availability of an updated version of the Mineral Deposit Inventory (MDI). This database is an inventory of mineral deposits in the province of Ontario and supersedes previous MDI releases. Originally compiled in the early 1970s by the Resident Geologist Program (RGP), the database is continually being reviewed and updated by RGP staff. There are 49 new records, 714 updated records and a total of 19 179 records in the 2016 MDI database.

The Mineral Deposit Inventory is available as a direct download (similar to, as examples, “Drill Hole Records” and “Abandoned, Inactive Mine Sites and Mine Hazards”) from GeologyOntario.

Each MDI record provides all or some of the following information: deposit name(s), location, status (e.g., occurrence, prospect, producer, past producer), commodities, character/classification, geological structure, lithology, minerals and mineral alteration, geochemistry, exploration history, and production and reserve data where available. Also included are notes on deposit visits and references to additional publications related to the deposit.

The compressed (.zip) download file provides MDI data in 2 formats: 1) a relational database, and 2) MDI provincial coverage in a geospatial GIS (ESRI® shape file) format. The complete MDI relational database is provided in Microsoft® Access® 2010 (.mdb) format. For the geospatial data, basic mineral deposit information (MDI number, commodities and property status) is provided. Geospatial data are provided in North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) geographic co-ordinate system using Geodetic Reference System 1980 (GRS80).
