Important Changes (effective April 10, 2018)
Claims converted on April 10, 2018 are eligible for payments in place if the claim is in its current assessment year and if the work requirements were met prior to conversion. For Payment in Place for a new claim registered on or after April 10, 2018, please see Directive 5.6

To start a Payment in Place for Converted Claims
Claim holders or Assessment Work Managers, as authorized in the Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS), may make a payment in place of assessment work offline by providing payment directly to the Ministry, provided all requirements are met, by using one of the methods below:

Required Information for Payment in Place Application
- Tenure ID (in numerical order)
- Legacy Claim ID
- Tenure Type
- Anniversary Date
- $ Work Required
- $ Amount to be Applied
Payments received by fax, mail, email or in person after 4:30 p.m. eastern standard time or eastern daylight time, on a day when the Ministry Office is open, is deemed to have been received on the next business day.
Offline Payment in Place eligibility
- assessment work must have been applied to each of the legacy claims that converted into the cell claim(s).
- where converted claims are amalgamated, each of the converted claims must be eligible for an offline payment pre-amalgamation for the amalgamated claim to be eligible.
- where converted claims are merged, each of the converted claims must be eligible for an offline payment pre-merge for the merged claim to be eligible.
- only one offline payment is allowed after conversion of the legacy claim.
- must also comply with the requirements of the Mining Act and the Assessment Work Regulation with regards to payments in place of assessment work.
Payment methods
- The payment method choices are:
- Debit Card
- Credit Card (Visa, Mastercard)
Note: Visa Debit is only accepted if payment is made in person at the Provincial Recording Office - Money orders or cheque made payable to the Minister of Finance. Cheques post-dated after the claim due date cannot be accepted.
A payment receipt will be sent to the client identified on the request via the MLAS.LTAU@ontario.ca email upon confirmation of payment.
Providing payment does not guarantee that converted claims will meet the eligibility requirements once a review is completed.
